CUPE 7000, the union representing 900 SkyTrain employees, announced that it has reached a preliminary agreement with the BC Rapid Transit Company (SkyTrain) and will not go on strike. Another Metro Vancouver Transit Union, MoveUP B.C, is still out of contract. The 150 employees of the Canada Line work under the BC Government and Service Employees Union (BCGEU), which has a collective agreement with ProTrans BC. ProTrans BC, a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin Inc., is the private operator of Canada Line under a 31-year operating and maintenance contract. BcGEU represents more than 80,000 members in 550 bargaining units in the private sector and the public service. „Without the commitment of the members of the Committee, whose determination remained firm in difficult circumstances, we would not have been able to reach this agreement.“ The ratification ended this afternoon after four days of electronic voting. „This ratification concludes a very difficult round of negotiations and reflects the strong mandate our negotiating committee has received from members,“ said Tony Rebelo, President of CUPE 7000. „Without the commitment of the members of the Committee, whose determination remained firm in difficult circumstances, we would not have been able to reach this agreement.“ Because CUPE 7000 and B.C. Rapid Transit Company have announced an interim agreement.
